Aba - Youth Enrichment Program

THE MISSION

OHENE is a plant-based skin care brand with a mission to moisturize the masses naturally. We are crowdfunding to deliver more value to you, with a goal of $125K. Funds raised will be used to deliver OHENE's 2nd generation collection of plant-based skin care products, reduce shipping times and increase inventory levels. This translates into more premium plant-based skin care with shorter wait times and less out of stocks.
Additionally, as OHENE remains committed to our community, we endeavor to build out Aba - a one-of-kind youth educational program that helps families bond over S.T.E.A.M. based concepts through the art or soap-making. The Aba component fulfills the original 2-part vision of OHENE - to inspire youth to learn S.T.E.A.M. concepts by creating handmade soap. Aba will serve as a launch pad for our next generation of community leaders by encouraging them to tap their inner brilliance and express their unique personalities through soap-making. Our meaningful interaction gives youth space and opportunity to innovate through their hands-on skin care creations, while learning S.T.E.A.M. based concepts. With Aba, families can now enjoy S.T.E.A.M. learning through soap-making in the comfort of their home.
The program will be curated for young learners ages 6-12, that thrive on hands-on learning activities. Enrolled learners will navigate through courses where they will explore and learn key concepts of soap-making, skin composition, arts and craft of soap-making and culminate with a group project to develop and market their own creations for earned rewards.
Although Aba is being created to deliver enriching learning opportunities over monthly engagements, we will also provide value via an a la carte enrollment option.
Aba virtual youth enrichment program focuses on S.T.E.A.M. education (where the “E” means both engineering and entrepreneurship), in the skin care space. Think Kiwi Crate meets Khan Academy.

THE MEANING

"Aba" derived from the Akan language of Ghana, West Africa means "seed". The aba logo is a variant of the original ohene logo where bottom section of aba resembles centermost portion of the original ohene design.
We’re all seeds cultivated by a village, and here at OHENE we recognize our youth as especially precious seeds with the utmost promise to grow into the incredible community leaders and world changers they will be. OHENE Aba cherishes the honor to serve as rich, fertile ground and nurturing cultivators in our youth’s growing process.

OHENE Aba, with OHENE meaning “king”, affirms the truth that our youth are children of the King… royal seeds of great promise. May we enrich their experiences so that we do our part in the process of the promises on their lives coming to prosperous fruition.

THE TEAM

Kofi Onumah, PharmD., RPh - Founder & Chief Artisan Officer

Dr. Kofi Onumah is a pharmacist with 20 plus years of experience in the pharmaceutical space serving in several industry roles spanning across regulatory, insurance and community pharmacy. Kofi’s vision to teach kids S.T.E.A.M. based

concepts through skin care creations began in 2014 when he started making soap at home with his first child as an activity to bond over. Shortly thereafter, his

second child was born and suffered with severe dry skin and eczema that would flare up with the usage of big brand skin care products. Surprisingly, Kofi and sons soap seemed to calm the youngest's skin.

Enrolled learners in OHENE Aba will experience an expanded process of skin care creation “soup to nuts” from a STEAM based perspective similar to how Kofi taught his sons.

Chavon Onumah, MD, MPH, MEd, FACP - Co-owner & Chief Wellness Officer

Physician, educator and equity advocate, Dr. Onumah brings a wealth of experience to OHENE. In her role, Chavon leverages her clinical expertise and consumer product wisdom to review and validate the safety and efficacy information of ingredients before products launch.

Chavon Onumah is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the General Internal Medicine Division at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She is board-certified in internal medicine with additional training in HIV medicine. Dr. Onumah serves as a resident educator and a quality improvement curriculum instructor. Darla Wynn, M.S.Ed., - Co-owner & Chief Curriculum Director
